How to Plan the Best RV Getaway

Plan the Best RV GetawayDo you spend your days dreaming about your next RV trip? It’s easy to think about all of the great places you are going to visit – but you might get bogged down when it comes time to take action on those ideas. This post provides a few practical tips to help you plan RV trips that you won’t soon forget.

Outline a Timeframe

A good starting point for your trip planning is to determine how long you can be gone, and on which days you are going to travel. This is a logical starting point because you will then have dates in mind that you can check availability, look for special events, etc. Even if your calendar is a little flexible, try to start your getaway plan by picking specific travel dates. You can always adjust those dates later if they don’t seem to be lining up with availability in the places you want to go to.

Manage Drive Time Wisely

Some people don’t mind being out on the highway for long miles to reach that special destination. With that said, even if you are someone who loves the open road, you don’t want to load too much driving onto any given day. Try to break up the drive in a logical manner that allows you to enjoy the journey without getting worn down or restless behind the wheel. Using an online tool like Google Maps makes it easy to figure out how long it will take to drive from one point to another.

It’s All About the Attractions

While it is nice to stay at a good RV park with plenty of on-site amenities, most great RV getaways come down to what there is to do in the area where you are staying. During the planning phase, this should be a key focus – what are you going to do during your time at the destination? Of course, you should pick locations that happen to offer things you and your family or friends enjoy. Like to play golf? Find an RV park near some great courses. Enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and backpacking? Get close to a State or National Park, or another natural area that is preserved.

Build-in Some Downtime

Staying busy and exploring the things to do in a given location makes for a fun vacation, but don’t pack your trip so tightly that you don’t have any room to just sit back and relax. If you are feeling run down only halfway through your trip, you have overbooked yourself and you might not enjoy the getaway as much as you would have with a little more time to rest. As you take more and more trips in your RV, you’ll get better at the art of striking the perfect balance with your schedule.
