Greenville has all sorts of event venues, theaters, eateries, and other entertainment attractions. The city has four popular independent theaters that put on shows throughout the year. Greenville has been honored as one of the country’s top 100 small towns for the arts. From the visual arts to music, Greenville has plenty of cultural opportunities. As an example, locals and visitors alike rave about the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. This site brings in national tours from a litany of bands in all musical genres. 

If you are interested in orchestra performances and/or plays, you will feel right at home at Greenville’s Peace Center for the Performing Arts. Walkthrough the city and you will find an abundance of visual art galleries and studios. In particular, the Village of West Greenville has some truly amazing visual art. Numerous public events highlighting the visual arts are provided through the Metropolitan Arts Council and Upstate Visual Arts. Examples include the West Greenville Arts Festival, Greenville Open Studios, and the First Fridays Art Walk. 

Greenville also has fine arts museums including the Bob Jones University Museum and Gallery and the Greenville County Museum of Art. Visit the Greenville County Museum of Art and you will find the famous Andrew Wyeth Collection along with pieces by famous artists including William H. Johnson, Jasper Johns, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Jackson Pollock.

Greenville Sports

The Boston Red Sox Major affiliate calls Greenville home. Dubbed the Greenville Drive, this minor league team plays at Fluor Field at the West End. Additional local sports teams include the minor league hockey squad, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, that plays in the ECHL. The city is also home to the Greenville Triumph soccer team, the Furman University sports teams and the sports squads from Bob Jones University.

Greenville’s Economy 

It was not long ago when the Greenville economy was primarily driven by textile manufacturing. A number of new companies, many of which are foreign, have set up shop in Greenville in recent years, partially because the city altered its tax structure. Greenville is the North American headquarters for a litany of companies including ScanSource, Southern Tide, Ameco, AVX Corporation, Michelin, JTEKT, Confluence Outdoor, and Concentrix. Lockheed Martin operates out of Greenville’s South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center. Honeywell, 3M, and General Electric also have facilities in the area.

Greenville Landmarks of Note 

The Roper Mountain Science Center is one of Greenville’s most intriguing landmarks. This site has a mind-blowing 23″ refractor telescope. Only seven other refractor telescopes in the entirety of the United States are larger than this one. Additional local landmarks include the Greenville Zoo at Cleveland Park, the Greenville County Museum of Art and Falls Park on the Reedy that provides convenient access to the popular Swamp Rabbit Trail. If you check out only one of these landmarks, your best bet might be Falls Park on the Reedy. This site features all sorts of natural niceties ranging from multiple waterfalls to gardens, a pedestrian suspension bridge with a view of Reedy River and plenty more.
