Five RV Buying Mistakes to Avoid

5 RV Buying Mistakes to AvoidBuying an RV can be an exciting process, as you dream of the trips you are going to take with your family and friends. Yet, at the same time, you might be a little apprehensive about making a mistake. You don’t want to spend more than is necessary, and you certainly don’t want to come away with the wrong vehicle for your needs. Here are five RV buying mistakes to avoid as you shop.

#1 – Not Buying Enough Space

When you shop for an RV, you are trying to walk a line between budget and size. You don’t want to spend too much and buy more than you need, but you also don’t want to spend money on an RV that you will quickly outgrow. Spend some time thinking about your space needs, both now and in the future. For a retired couple, the need for space is probably going to be a constant. On the other hand, a young family buying their first RV may find that they need more room as the kids grow up.

#2 – Buying the First RV You See

This is buying advice that could apply to just about anything you purchase in life. It’s rarely a good idea to buy the first option you see – how do you know if it’s a good deal? You need to take a look around at a few possibilities before you can be sure which one is right for you.

#3 – Letting the Pressure Get to You

Unfortunately, some RV dealerships are not as respectful of their customers as they should be. If you find yourself on a lot that is using pressure-filled sales tactics to try closing the deal, don’t be afraid to walk away. Getting pushed into an RV purchase that you aren’t completely comfortable with is never a good thing, and you may come to regret that purchase a short time later. Remember, you are in control of the situation, and it is your money that you’ll be spending.

#4 – Taking Too Many Opinions

It’s easy to spend hours and hours reading reviews of various RV models on the web. And, to be sure, reading some of those opinions can help you to understand the options on the market. But, listening too much to those reviews and not enough to your personal preferences isn’t a good choice. This is the RV that you and your family will be using, so the only opinion that matters, in the end, is yours.

#5 – Waiting Too Long

Sure, you need to be financially ready to buy an RV before actually writing the check – that goes without saying. However, waiting too long is only going to let life pass you by while you’re making plans. Taking trips in your RV is a lot more fun than thinking about buying one someday, so be ready to make the move when your finances are in place.
